Metro tickets and fares
Porto's metro uses the Andante system: a rechargeable card loaded with a ticket for the number of zones your trip covers. Each Porto Planner route shows the ticket you need.
How to pay for a metro trip
- Get an Andante card. It costs €0.60 from the ticket machines at any metro station, and you can reload it many times. Each traveller needs their own card.
- Load a ticket for your zones (Z2 to Z7) at the machine. The route page tells you which one you need.
- Validate the card on the reader every time you board, including when you change lines. There are not always barriers, but travelling without validating counts as travelling without a ticket.
Skip the machine: the Anda app
Anda is the official Andante app. On Android phones with NFC (Android 5.0 or later) you can travel with the phone itself: hold it to the validator when you board and when you change lines, and the app works out the cheapest total for your trips at the end of the month. On iPhone the app can only load trips onto an Andante card for now, so you still skip the machine queue.
Features differ by phone and the app has mixed reviews, so keep a machine as a backup the first time.
Tourist passes
Andante Tour passes give unlimited travel for 24 or 72 hours from the first validation. Prices and sales points are on the official Andante site. andante.pt
